Professional wrestling Ric Flair revealed Tuesday he is cancer-free. Flair, 76, announced June 6 he had been diagnosed with skin cancer for the second time in three years.
“Thank You Academic Alliance In Dermatology! I’m Now Cancer Free! WOOOOO!” Flair wrote on X.
Last month, Flair reshared talent manager and friend Anthony Maurizio‘s post on X, which shed light on his health situation: “Ric is indeed facing a tough battle with a skin cancer diagnosis, grappling with denial and the emotional weight of biopsies and ongoing tests. This isn’t his first fight — having endured a traumatic coma, these new health scares hit hard.”
Flair has previously dealt with serious health issues. In August 2017, he was hospitalized with stomach pains. After checking into the hospital, Flair was found to be in the early stages of kidney failure and close to congestive heart failure. Flair was put into a medically induced coma and had just a 20% chance of survival. Doctors later removed part of his bowel and inserted a pacemaker.
Flairtold PEOPLE at the time, “I crashed in an airplane and broke my back, I’ve been hit by lightning. But this is totally different. Anything I’ve been through before is nothing like this.”
Ric Flair continues to stay involved in professional wrestling
Nearly five years later, Flair wrested his last match on July 31, 2022, in Nashville. Flair, who passed out twice during the match, later revealed he suffered a heart attack during the tag team match against Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal.
The 16-time world champion signed a multi-year deal with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in 2023, making his first appearance on the Oct. 25, 2023, episode of “Dynamite.” On March 3, 2024, Flair accompanied Sting to the ring at the “Revolution” pay-per-view for the latter’s final match. During the match, Flair received superkicks from The Young Bucks. Flair returned to AEW on the May 17, 2025, edition of “Collision” in Chicago, helping pay tribute to the late Steve “Mongo” McMichael.
Flair’s daughter, Charlotte Flair, continues to compete in the women’s division in WWE. She is a 14-time world champion.
