SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Fraudulent auto insurance policies are being marketed to Utah’s Hispanic community, according to the Utah Insurance Dept. These marketing tactics are typically done through WhatsApp or by fake agents via word-of-mouth, officials said. People who purchase these fake auto policies not only lose money by paying for the policy, but may also have their vehicle registrations revoked. This, in turn, could result in their vehicles being impounded. “Unknown sellers, who we believe to be located outside of the United States, continue to market fake insurance policies to unsuspecting victims,” said Fraud Division Director Armand Glick.…

A breakthrough drug is fighting brain cancer head-on. Glioblastoma is widely considered the deadliest form of brain cancer, killing over 10,000 Americans each year. There is no cure for the highly aggressive disease — many patients survive just nine months after diagnosis. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and extending life via surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible and radiation therapy and chemotherapy to destroy cancer cells. Now, researchers from University College London Hospitals (UCLH) are recruiting glioblastoma patients for a trial of the immunotherapy drug ipilimumab. Sold under the brand name Yervoy, the monoclonal antibody stimulates the…

Medicare Advantage could become the default health-insurance program for all older adults. A recent proposal in Congress would automatically enroll older adults in a Medicare Advantage plan and then lock them into that plan for three years — unless they actively opt for traditional Medicare coverage. The proposal sponsored by U.S. Rep. David Schweikert, an Arizona Republican, would automatically put people 65 and older into the lowest-cost Medicare Advantage plan in their area starting in 2028. Those enrollees would be unable to change to any other plan for three years. The proposal, HR 3467, does allow people to opt out…

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurers are proposing their largest premium hikes since 2018. Most insurers are requesting an average increase of 15% for 2026, with over a quarter proposing hikes of 20% or more. According to Cynthia Cox from KFF, this is “the most significant increase we’ve seen in over five years.” These proposed increases are a direct response to the anticipated expiration of enhanced subsidies, which have kept premiums low for many Americans. The looming expiration of enhanced ACA subsidies at the end of this year is the primary driver of these premium increases. Once the additional aid…
With few treatments available to stop or reverse Alzheimer’s disease, scientists have turned to cancer drugs as a potential means of walking back cognitive decline. Alzheimer’s cases are rising in the United States and worldwide due to an aging population, but there is no cure for the disease. Attempts to develop new treatments that slow the disease’s progress, rather than lessen symptoms, have frequently failed. Only two drugs — the antibody therapies Leqembi and Kisunla — are currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration to slow the progression of early Alzheimer’s, and scientists say their benefits are limited. Some pharmaceutical…
